CEO vs Average Pay in Canada: All in a Day's Work?

Five years after a global recession knocked the wind out of Canada's labour market, throwing tens of thousands of workers onto the unemployment line and sidelining a generation of young workers, the compensation of Canada's CEO elite continues to sail along. By 1:11pm on January 2, the first official working day of the year, Canada's top 100 CEOs have already pocketed $46,634 — what it takes most Canadians an entire year, working full-time, to earn.*
By the end of 2012, Canada's top 100 CEOs had pocketed an average of $7.96 million.
At this rate, Canada's 50 highest paid CEOs make 171 times more than the average Canadian worker—and 194 times the average Canadian woman.
Keep an eye on our pay clock to keep track of who's making what, and find out more in our report, All in a Day's Work? CEO Pay in Canada.
The report includes a list of Canada's 100 highest paid CEOs. *Based on 2012 CEO compensation data and the 2012 average Canadian wage.
