SUMMARY:How Seniors Can Contribute to Reconciliation with First Peoples
DESCRIPTION:BRITISH COLUMBIA’S ANGLOPHONES AND FRANCOPHONES ADDRESS RECONCILIATION WITH FIRST NATIONS\nVictoria — Carrefour 50+ CB and the Council of Senior Citizens’ Organizations of BC (COSCO) are launching a major series of webinars with simultaneous interpretation on key social issues affecting people aged 50+. The first in this series will address the issue of reconciliation with First Nations.\nOn September 28, the two organizations will virtually host an intergenerational conversation with First Nations people from British Columbia, facilitated by Diane Campeau, Professor of Aboriginal Education at the University of Ottawa and the University of Alberta, Campus St-Jean.\nThis meeting will provide an opportunity to learn more about the journey of Elder Eddy Charlie, a member of the Cowichan Grand Nation, residential school survivor and co-founder of the Orange Shirt Day Society, as well as two members of the Da’naxda’x̱w First Nation: Sandra Glendale and her son Sasha Kasalas-Perron, the latter representing the new generation.\nFuture topics to be addressed in this series include medical assistance in dying, LGBTQ+ elders in residential care, and music therapy, among others.\n
