Welcome to the Canadian Coalition Against Ageism (CCAA). The CCAA is a nation-wide social change movement to eliminate ageism against older people while protecting and strengthening their human rights.

I am excited to inform you that the Fourteenth Session of the Open-ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA), held in New York from May 20–22 and 24, 2024, marked a historic milestone in the group’s 14-year journey.

At OEWG 14, older Canadians made their voices heard with strength and clarity, passionately advocating for a UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons, the elimination of ageism, and the promotion and protection of their human rights. Over 24 members from the International Longevity Centre Canada (ILC Canada) and the Canadian Coalition Against Ageism (CCAA) provided powerful civil society representation. This was matched by growing support from civil society, NGOs, National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), major aging-related organizations, and a strong cohort of member states, culminating in a significant breakthrough.

We will keep you updated on further developments. Please feel free to share this wonderful news widely.

Best regards,

Dr. Kiran Rabheru, CCAA Chair
