Stand with us for intergenerational solidarity and #AWorld4AllAges this festive season!

The end of another year has come again, and that means a season of diverse festivities and celebrations has arrived once more!

For the WHO Global Campaign to Combat Ageism, we’re taking the opportunity to be thankful for and celebrate a year of important strides in creating #AWorld4AllAges:

📢 Global Intergenerational Week 2024, which we supported by releasing a set of new resources for our Connecting Generations ‘how-to’ guide on intergenerational practice

♾️ Our new supporters’ logo, which has already been used by projects and initiatives around the world to connect their work to the WHO Global Campaign to Combat Ageism

🤝 The UN’s Summit of the Future, where we worked with the governments of Portugal and the Philippines, UN DESA, and HelpAge International to hold an official side event on how intergenerational solidarity can help us build inclusive, just, and sustainable societies for all ages

📣 The launch of a national campaign on ageism in Chile linked to the WHO Global Campaign to Combat Ageism

⚖️ Concrete achievements in strengthening policy and law to address ageism, including the UN Open-ended Working Group on Ageing concluding its work to identify gaps in the protection of older people’s rights, and the African Union Protocol of the Rights of Older Persons entering into force

Change can sometimes feel gradual to achieve. However, this year shows that if we work together and continue to speak with one voice, #AWorld4AllAges can become a reality.

And in a world that can feel more divided than ever, standing as one to address inequities and injustice has never been more important.

Speaking of standing as one, it’s also fitting that 20 December is International Human Solidarity Day – a day that calls for celebrating unity in diversity.

This year, we saw real strides in countries around the world recognising the importance of intergenerational solidarity for building a better tomorrow.

As countries prepare to gather for the Second World Summit for Social Development in November 2025, we have a real opportunity to push together for the continued recognition of genuine intergenerational solidarity as essential for combatting ageism and developing more inclusive societies.

In 2025, we will be reaching out regularly on how we can come together to ensure intergenerational solidarity stays prominent on the international agenda.

But in the meantime, visit our living list of important days and opportunities to look over key opportunities to watch out for – and please send in your suggestions on moments we can stand as one, in solidarity, for #AWorld4AllAges.

This festive period is also a time of year for many around the world to re-connect with friends, families, and other loved ones.

This time of joy and gratitude brings people of all ages together. It’s also an opportunity to take personal steps to foster intergenerational solidarity and challenge ageism.

Remember: the Global Campaign’s resources are always available to help you navigate these opportunities. Take a look at some of our recommended resources below – you just might be able to end the year with another step towards creating #AWorld4AllAges!
