The Council of Senior Citizens’ Organizations of BC (COSCO BC) is advocating to the BC government to reverse the interest rates changes to the property tax deferment program announced in BC Budget 2026.
I’m a low income senior in New West living on under $25k a year and own a small condo. I did defer taxes but cannot justify paying the increase interest rate and compounded. So I stopped it. I owe about $12,500 and now pay taxes every year. My taxes are double what Burnaby pays for same assessed value property. I need hearing aids which I can’t afford, I dont have a car anymore and no longer can afford a pet. I take up my days going to aquasize to get out of house. Thankfully I get a discount for that. Please and thank you for your letter on Tax deferment I pray they reverse it.
